Phillies Hang On for 8-6 Win Over N.Y.-Force Game 6
Posted by admin | Under MLB Tuesday Nov 3, 2009The Phillies held on for an 8-6 victory over the Yankees last night to force game 6 back in the Bronx on Wednesday night. Chase Utley had two HR’s, giving him 5 for the series and tying him with Reggie Jackson for the most HR’s in a World Series. Raul Ibanez also had a solo HR to right.
The Phils need to win Wednesday night to force a game 7 but I don’t see them out scoring the Yankees without Ryan Howards bat coming alive. He is hitting .158 for the series and you just can’t count on Utley hitting two HR’s every night. I don’t think Pedro Martinez can pitch a 1-0 shut out on Wednesday either. They have been lucky enough to score enough runs to stave off elimination so far but without Howard I don’t think they win on Wednesday.
The Yankees are going to start Andy Pettitte on 3 days rest but with the way the Yankees are hitting (19 hits the last 2 games), even with an average outing from Pettitte, I believe the Yankees will close this out in 6.
