It is only the second World Championship in franchise history, and the first since 1980.
On October 29, 2001 Matt Williams becomes the first player in World Series history to hit home runs with three different teams. The Diamondback’s third baseman homered in the Fall Classic for the Indians in 1997 and the Giants in 1989.

On October 29, 1975 As their overwhelming choice, the Baseball Writers Association of American select Fred Lynn (.331, 21, 105) as the American League Rookie of the Year. The 22-year old Red Sox all-star outfielder receives 23.5 out 24 first place votes with teammate, Jim Rice getting the other .5.
