The Phillies  are in New York  tonight for game one of this years World Series. They’re calling for a 30% chance of showers and a game time temperature of around 47 degrees. Sounds like good weather for this time of year in N.Y. It could be snowing.

Cliff Lee is starting for the Phillies  and CC Sabathia for the Yankees. On paper this looks like a 1-0 pitchers duel, but in these two ballparks they will be playing in, I wouldn’t count on it. Lee held the Yankees to 2 runs back on April 16 in the first game played in the new Yankee Stadium.

Acquired from Cleveland in a July trade, Lee he is 2-0 with a 0.74 ERA in his first postseason. He has thrown 24 1/3 innings in three starts. Sabathia went 3-0 with a 1.19 ERA and 20 strikeouts in three starts, earning MVP honors in the AL championship series. The one major problem, Sabathia is only 1-2 with a 5.55 ERA in four career starts against the Phillies, including a playoff loss with the Brewers last year.

With post season experience and Lee going in game one, I think the Phillies win tonight and take the home field advantage. I also think the series will go 7. The Yankees will win one on the road and bring the series back to N.Y.
