Phoenix Tops Indiana in OT 120-116 in First Game of WNBA Finals
Posted by admin | Under WNBA Wednesday Sep 30, 2009For  the first game of the WNBA finals you could not ask for a better basketball game than this one. Cappie Pondexter missed a game-winning tip-in at the fourth-quarter buzzer then scored seven of her 23 points in overtime Tuesday night to help the Mercury beat the visiting Fever 120-116 in the highest-scoring game in WNBA history.
The game had 11 players in double figure scoring and not one of them was Tamika Catchings, who only had 8 points. Catchings held league MVP Diana Taurasi to 5 for 17 from the field but she was still able to score 22 on the night.
“It was fun,” Taurasi said, “kind of showing a different side of women’s basketball – how high a level it is. It’s fun to be in the game and I’m sure it was fun to watch.”
