On September 22, 2007, Moises Alou hit safely in his 26th straight game, setting a new franchise mark for the New York Mets in a single season. Alou went hitless in his first three at-bats before singling to start the ninth inning. At 41 years and 80 days old, Alou became the oldest player in Major League history to have a hitting streak of at least 20 games.
On September 22, 1993, Nolan Ryan of the Texas Rangers makes his final major league appearance. Pitching against the Seattle Mariners, the 46-year-old Ryan allows a grand slam and leaves the game in the first inning with a torn ligament in his elbow.
On September 22, 1969, Willie Mays of the San Francisco Giants hits his 600th career home run. Pinch-hitting for George Foster, Mays connects against Mike Corkins of the San Diego Padres, helping the Giants earn a 4-2 win. Mays trails only Babe Ruth on the all-time home run list…
