Did You Know This About the Little League World Series
Posted by admin | Under Uncategorized Friday Aug 21, 2009The first Little League World Series was held on this date( Aug. 21 1947 ) in South Williamsport. Â A team from Williamsport defeated Lock Haven, Pa., 16-7 for the championship. At the time, Little League only existed in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and in 1947 all the teams were from Pennsylvania except one.
Within 3 years, Little League was played in all states, and the first Little Leagues outside the 48 states were in Panama, Canada and Hawaii, in 1950.
The championship was first televised in 1953 (by CBS) and the first international champion was from Monterey, Mexico, in 1957.
