Yankees Sweep Red Sox over Weekend
Posted by admin | Under MLB Monday Aug 10, 2009The Yankees swept a four game series with the Red Sox for the first time in 24 years. Boston had won 8 games from the Yankees this year, but this weekend belonged to N.Y.. Boston is now 6 1/2 games back and tied with Texas for the wild card.
The Red Sox finished the disastrous series 3 for 38 with runners in scoring position, scoring two runs total the final three games. “It’s frustrating, you know, for everyone,” David Ortiz said. “That’s why when you’re on a good roll, you’ve got to try to win as many games as possible, so when you get in that hump, you know, you just deal with it.”

I can’t remember ever seeing a home plate umpire throwing a center fielder out of a game before, but that’s what happened yesterday. Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino was thrown out by home plate umpire Ed Rapuano, when he threw up his hands in disgust on a 0-2 pitch to Wes Helms was called a ball.
He charged in from the outfield after getting tossed, but was stopped by catcher Paul Bako and Ryan Howard.
“I love Ed. He’s a great guy, one of the best umpires in the game,” Victorino said. “It’s unfortunate what happened. I let my emotions get the best of me. I hope Ed doesn’t hold it against me.”
