Posted by admin | Under Sports Trivia Friday Jul 3, 2009The Detroit Lions  first played on Thanksgiving day 1934 losing to the Chicago Bears 19 to 16. They played every year through 1938. They resumed their Thanksgiving day games in 1945 and have played on Thanksgiving every year since.
The record for the most sacks in an NFL season was compiled by Michael Strahan of the N.Y. Giants. In 2001 he had 22.5 sacks. Number 2 on the list is Mark Gastineau of the N.Y. Jets who had 22 in 1984.
Super Bowl VI, with a temperature at kickoff of 39 degrees Fahrenheit, was the coldest ever played. The game took place at Tulane Stadium  in New Orleans, LA on January 16, 1972. The winners of the game were the Dallas Cowboys, who defeated the Miami Dolphins 24-3.
