Yankees Girardi, Red Sox Penny Trade Barbs
Posted by admin | Under MLB Sunday Jun 14, 2009Joe Girardi  accuses Brad Penny of hitting A-Rod in the back in Thursday nights game intentionally. What Girardi fails to mention is that his pitchers hit 9 Red Sox batters in the series, to only three Yankees being hit. The problem with the American League is that the pitcher never bats, so no one can really retaliate against the one that started the whole mess.
Here is what Gerardi had to say: “Penny’s control was pretty good,” Girardi said. “I thought it was on purpose. That is all part of baseball.” If that is part of baseball, and it is, why did he say anything at all. He is probably just disgusted about the Yankees losing all 8 games to the Red Sox so far this season.
“It seems like there is always the feeling that if someone intentionally throws at someone they are going to be suspended,” Girardi said. “I don’t care for it. I don’t care for hitting him in that situation. That’s my opinion. I’m not 100 percent right, for sure, that he threw at him on purpose. That’s my feeling. That’s up to the commissioner’s office.”
Penny came back with this statement: “I don’t give two [expletives] what Joe Girardi says,” Penny told the Globe. “I’m coming inside. I don’t care. Anybody can say that. We can say that about the time they hit our guys. I’m just trying to pitch inside. Maybe he should worry about managing and not trying to be the commissioner. Sounds like two Pro Wrestlers trying to drum up more business doesn’t it.
